Geraldton water polo: Demons must win to secure top spot as women set for grand final preview
With just two rounds to go in the Geraldton water polo season, teams are racing to secure their finals positions.
The top two spots for the Women’s A-grade is sewn up, with the B52s in a commanding lead on the ladder, but third place is still up for grabs.
Demons are secure in second, leaving Rats and Serpents to battle it out this weekend to stay off the bottom of the table.
Serpents are a resurgent side with plenty of promise but they have yet to translate that promise into wins.
B52s take on Demons in what will likely be a grand final preview, with each hoping to gain a psychological edge over the other. Tenielle Hawk will be looking to add to her tally of 32 goals and break the individual goal-scoring record.
In the men’s A-grade division, Demons and B52s are neck-and-neck on points but Demons have the better goal advantage.
Demons will take on Rats in a must-win game, while the B52s have a free hit against the country week composite side.
Rats coach Luke Neuwert was happy with his side’s progress this season despite some disappointing results.
“We are excited about this weekend’s game; the lads are performing well as a team. The focus this weekend is to build on our last couple of weeks and be competitive in the water,” he said.
In B-grade men’s games B52s take on Demons. The B52s are already secured in first place and will be looking to keep the momentum leading into finals, but the Demons can secure second with a win.
B52s Relics will go against Rats. The Relics are eyeing second place on the ladder and will go out for a big win against the bottom-placed side.
In women’s B-grade, Rats play B52s and Serpents take on Demons in the final match of the weekend, with third spot on the line.
In the C-grade men’s games, B52s Blue take on B52s White and Demons go up against Rats.
For the women, Demons Black have the derby against Demons Gold, B52s take on Rats Black and Rats Orange have the Serpents to contend with.
