Geraldton water polo round 13: Demons take down Rats to secure A-grade minor premiership

Demons secured the men’s A-grade water polo minor premiership after a dominant 10-4 win over Rats on Saturday.

Joel Cross, from Demons, was named the player of the game after an impressive performance with three goals and inspirational attacking plays.

Oliver Green stood out for Rats, scoring two crucial goals for the losing side.

In the other A-grade clash, Relics faced off against B52’s, with the latter securing an impressive 4-0 victory.

Jimmy Horsman performed solidly for the B52’s, contributing to the team by setting up Leo Prout and Ashley Sojan for their two goals each.

Kingston Warren had a nice game as well for the winners, displaying tireless efforts in his attacking plays.

In the women’s A-grade games, Demons had a strong outing against the Composite side, with Aimee Hagan delivering a solid performance for the Composite team.

In the other A-grade game, B52’s achieved a comprehensive 12-3 victory over Rats. Abbey Benham was outstanding for the victors, scoring five goals and thwarting many of the Rats’ forward plays.

Evie Prout added another goal to her own tally, with the young powerhouse seemingly improving with every game.

In men’s B-grade action, Relics defeated Rats 8-5 on Sunday, with Noah Scott scoring three for the victors.

B52’s had a successful afternoon on Saturday, securing a 12-6 win in over Demons.

Jimmy Horsman and Leo Prout combined for five goals for the winning team.

The women’s B-grade matches saw Mickayla Cremin’s goalkeeping prowess help Demons secure a convincing 8-2 victory against Serpents on Sunday.

The talented young keeper not only saved her fair share of shots but also marshalled her team to stop most of the attacking plays.

In a closer game, B52’s won 6-4 against Rats, with Evie Prout scoring three of the B52’s goals.

Geraldton Water Polo Association spokesperson Julia Gourley said she has been delighted with the season so far and expressed her excitement about the run into finals.

“Only two rounds till finals start, and it is going to be a close finish for the season,” she said.

“As we know from previous seasons, never count out a team until the conclusion of semi-finals.

“Our Junior AYC players are back with new skills from Brisbane and are taking the local competition up to the next level.”
