Emma Smith scored four goals for the B52’s, while Keshi McCagh and Aimee Hagan both achieved hat-tricks. The Rats team appeared fatigued with limited substitutes, and despite the efforts of Taylor Beroi and Charlotte Crawford in goal, the B52’s attack was simply too intense for the stand-in goalkeepers. Corey Smith, the B52’s A-grade women’s coach, said: “I’m very pleased with our start to the year, the girls are fit and eager to pursue our fourth consecutive title. “We’ve lost many players from last year, but I’m thrilled with how the young players we’ve brought up have seamlessly adapted to A-grade.” The Demons faced the Composite side in a well-contested game, resulting in a 7-4 win for the Demons ladies. Abbie McDonald scored four goals, including a screamer in the first half, Mikayla Cremin once again proved a dependable force in goal for the Composite side, while Mel Buscumb made a collection of athletic saves for the winners. In the men’s A-grade games, the Rats lost to the Demons 9-4. Zac Cross and Lachy Toomath reignited their dynamic partnership up front for the Demons, scoring six goals between them, while Drew McGregor showcased his consistent skills in the victorious team’s goal. The Relics faced the B52’s on Friday evening, with the B52’s emerging victorious in a 5-3 end-to-end match-up. The B52’s showcased their young talents, with Jimmy Horsman, Leo Prout, and Callum Sojan all finding the scoresheet for the deserving winners. In the men’s B-grade games, the Rats secured a 5-3 victory over the Relics. Rats goalkeeper Brendon Jones kept his team in the game with close to a dozen key saves throughout the match. The game of the weekend was the B-grade match-up between B52’s and Demons, ending in an 11-7 victory for B52’s. Leo Prout was the standout for the B52’s, scoring six goals and making several crucial plays in both attack and defence. In the women’s B-grade games, Rats took an early lead and emerged as winners over the B52’s in a thrilling 9-6 match. Ava Chesson scored five goals for the winners and set up her teammates for additional goals. Serpents faced Demons in the other B-grade game, with Demons coming out as 9-4 winners after a hard-fought battle. In the men’s C-grade games, the B52’s won 11-6 over the Rats, with Beau Wilson scoring six goals in a standout performance and Demons got a 8-3 win over the Rats. In the women’s C-grade games, Rats Black faced Demons Yellow in a seesaw battle, resulting in a 5-5 draw. In the Serpents derby, Yellow edged Green 8-7.
