Several key clashes in round five of the Geraldton Water Polo Association this weekend could start shaping the season’s standings. In men’s A-grade, Demons and B52’s sit level on the ladder after B52’s impressive win last round. B52’s looked composed and well-drilled but would have hoped for more goals, with several key Demons players being unavailable. Demons will be eager to bounce back when they face Rats on Saturday and will be hopeful that Zacc and Joel Cross return to strengthen their squad. Rats are still chasing their first win of the season, but with Darcy Wiffen and Bodhi Smith in their ranks, remain a genuine threat and could cause an upset if given room to move. B52’s will have a rest when they take on the Composite side. Women’s A-grade action sees the high-flying Demons take on Serpents in what could be one of the most entertaining games of the round on Saturday afternoon. Demons’ Olivia Higgs continues to lead the goal-scoring tally, and with Sian and Abbie McDonald alongside Billie and Maddie Marshall all in form, Demons looks unstoppable. Serpents have shown growth each week and will rely on the speed and finishing of Grace Johnson to keep them in the contest. B52’s will aim to stretch their winning streak against Rats, with Emma Smith and Keshi McGagh continuing to impress for the reigning champions. Rats have shown real heart despite their results, and young star Tessa O’Malley continues to turn heads with her tireless efforts. Regularly playing multiple games in a day while also coaching C-grade, O’Malley’s energy and influence make her one of the most valuable players in the competition. In women’s B-grade, B52’s meet Serpents on Friday night while Demons Black and Demons Yellow face off in a Saturday derby. The division has produced some of the most entertaining high-scoring games this season, and that trend looks set to continue. Bianca Brennan and Kalani Cotto will again be the ones to watch for Serpents as they aim to extend their scoring run. The men’s B-grade continues to be a battle between the dominant B52’s and Demons, who meet late Friday in what could be a preview of the finals. Callum Sojan and Leo Prout remain in top form for B52’s and lead the goal tally. The weekend closes with B52’s Relics taking on Rats on Saturday afternoon. In men’s C-grade, Demons face Serpents early on Friday, while Rats meet B52’s on Saturday.
