City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn has hailed the inaugural Wind on Water Festival a huge success, estimating it drew about 10,000 people to the Geraldton foreshore last weekend.

The two day event included a sand sculpture display, giant kites, community art, extreme water sports demonstrations and fireworks.

About 2500 people attended Stow Gardens to watch local band Songbird play alongside well-known Perth indie rockers San Cisco and headline act The Veronicas on Sunday night.

WoW Festival was jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund and the City of Greater Geraldton. There were also a number of local sponsors.
