The Pumas have come out the winners in the top of the table clash against Stateside, beating them 65-60 on Monday. The game started out one-sided, as Stateside got on a roll early with a 9-0 run. A Kahlia Morgan three put the Pumas on the board but the Scorpions still had control of the game early and finished the first quarter up 10. The Pumas responded in the second quarter, with threes from Jaimee Rich and Millie Gerreyn erasing the lead Stateside held just three minutes into the stanza. Momentum was going in the Pumas favour as they pulled ahead, but scoring from Abbie McDonald for Stateside stopped the game from getting out of hand. As the game was tied up, an Emily Gee three for Pumas put them ahead heading into the half but Charlotte Kennedy managed a late bucket, reducing the half-time difference to one. A big defensive quarter had Pumas running away with the game, outscoring the Scorpions 21-10 in the third. A late scoring comeback from Stateside kept the game close but time ran out and Pumas came away with the five-point win. Morgan had a 17-point game with five three-pointers while Mikenna Schultz shot 16 points for the Pumas, while McDonald led Stateside in scoring with 20. In the other match-up at Activewest Stadium, Trades got up over Chapman Valley in the 66-42 clash. Trades previously just had one win for the season but managed to get up early over the Valley and win the game from there. Valley couldn’t keep up with their offence, only managing to outscore Trades in one quarter. Holly Baynes scored 17 points for Trades while for Valley Michelle Taylor dropped 14.
