Geraldton’s 30 Knots Distillery the toast of three overseas awards ceremonies

Geraldton’s local distillery has won multiple international awards at three ceremonies, just one year after it opened. Beresford-based 30 Knots Distillery was recognised at three different ceremonies, all announced this month. The distillery’s Southerly Gin has received the gold medal from the Spirits International Prestige Awards in Los Angeles. According to the SIP Awards, gold is awarded to spirits that perform well in a double blind tasting, with judges strongly recommending the products. At the World Liqueur Awards, 30 Knots Distillery claimed bronze with its Mellow Gin liqueur, with judges saying the alcohol “pairs with the sweetness to create a complex profile”. Meanwhile, the packaging for its products was recognised at the Dieline Awards, receiving the best packaging award in the beverages category. Director of 30 Knots Distillery Kelly Killen said the business aimed to showcase Geraldton to the world. “We are truly honoured by the international recognition we have received,” she said. “Designing the packaging as we did, it wasn’t just about our spirits, but also highlighting the region where it was crafted. “Every bottle is a memento of the region, so we do love hearing stories of customers sending it to their friends and family overseas . . . a little piece of Geraldton.” The distillery opened in May last year, and aims to capture “Gero gusto” in its beverages. According to 30 Knots, its bottles take inspiration from the Point Moore lighthouse, and it depicts the Geraldton postcode 6530 on each bottle.
