Geraldton’s Alex Ducas selected in the WCC All-Conference second team ahead of tournament

Geraldton basketball star Alex Ducas has been named to the WCC All-Conference second team in his final year of college basketball. The senior was recognised for his play during the year, marking the second time he has been selected for an all-conference side, following his selection in 2022 and being an honourable mention in 2023. During his final season with St Mary’s (Gael’s Men’s Basketball), the 23-year-old averaged 10.1 points per game along with two assists and 5.7 rebounds across the 33 games he appeared in, starting in all of them. The long-time Gael’s accomplishments for the season will not stop there, as he is on the verge of becoming the school’s all-time record holder for games played. Ducas tied the record during the conference championship game with 149, and he will take hold of the record on the weekend when St Mary’s play in their first match of the NCAA Tournament. The Geraldton product helped lead St Mary’s to the fifth seed in the West, the third year in a row that the school enters the bracket at the fifth seed. Both Ducas and St Mary’s will be chasing redemption, as the past two years the school has been eliminated in the second round and Ducas went down with a back injury in their loss last year. St Mary’s has not made it past the second round since 2010, with the school struggling with early exists despite being a high seeded team in recent years. Their first match is against the 12th seed Grand Canyon on Saturday, with the tournament, also known as March Madness, putting the top 64 division one schools against each other. Every game is win or go home.
