Hours before Argentina claimed their win over Brazil in the Copa America, another highly fancied side in yellow and blue struggled to get the result they wanted.

Geraldton’s metro soccer team, Ugle Fabrications La Fiamma, held BrOzzy SC, a club largely made up of Perth-based Brazilians, to a 1-1 draw at the Salvatore Sciuto ground in Wonthella in a credible result against a side in the top eight in what has been an up-and-down season for the red-and-whites.

UF La Fiamma coach Keegan Roos said his men had done well with multiple injuries in the squad.

“We were up against a team that’s mostly Brazilian. We knew from the get-go that they were going to be technically good, and they were,” he said.

“We struggled with their technical ability but didn’t look like letting in too many goals.

“Then we started creating chances and took one.

“With a team that’s full of injuries, we played pretty well.

“Everybody stuck to the plan and played well.”

Both sides could have won the game late on after Cameron Brown evened out the scores with his fourth goal of the season, prompting Roos to praise him for stepping up with injury keeping as many as seven first-team players out of action.

BrOzzy hit a shot miles wide when it looked easier to hit the target after a corner was scuffed in the box as a raucous crowd cheered the action, before UF La Fiamma winger Lachlan Gray blazed narrowly over from an angle and could consider himself unlucky not to have scored the winner. Woodvale United away are next up, a game where UF La Fiamma will be looking for revenge after seeing a 3-0 home lead slip away as the visit-ors took a 4-3 win from the opening round of the season.

Roos said he hoped supporters would turn out for the next home game in two rounds’ time against Kalamunda.
