Geraldton’s Liberal Party branch nominates clinical psychologist Timothy Milnes as preselection candidate

The Liberals’ Geraldton branch has preselected clinical psychologist Timothy Milnes as its candidate for next year’s State election. Mr Milnes put his hat in the ring for preselection in May alongside one other person — former City of Greater Geraldton councillor Michael Reymond — in a bid to represent the seat of Geraldton for the Liberal Party. “I’m originally from Moora, but I’ve been back in Geraldton for the last 16 years,” Mr Milnes said. The father of four lives in Greenough with his wife and children, and has said the process of nominating for preselection has been a slow burn. “I was a young Liberal while I was at uni, when I was 18. I’m 49 now,” Mr Milnes said, describing the pull into politics as an unconventional progression from his day job as a clinical psychologist, which both require problem solving. “Working in and around health and health care, it’s something that has been at times frustrating but I can see it’s an area I can help in,” Mr Milnes said. Mr Milnes believes regional residents faced different challenges to those living in the metropolitan area, and wanted to help curb the “systemic issues”. Labor incumbent Lara Dalton will be seeking a second term after she was endorsed by her party in May. The Nationals WA endorsed Chapman Valley Shire president, Kirrilee Warr as its nominee for Geraldton in March. Mr Milnes will go head-to-head with Ms Dalton and Ms Warr once he is officially endorsed by the State Council in Perth on July 27, ahead of the State election on March 8 next year.
