Geraldton’s multicultural community teams up with local charity on new office space to help immigrants

Geraldton’s Mid West Multicultural Association (MWMA) will have a new hub for helping immigrants and those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities following an agreement with local charity Centacare. MWMA will have an office at Centacare’s facility for an engagement officer, who will be able to help the multicultural group organise their events, and help others settle and find a place in the community. MWMA received a grant from the Office of Multicultural Interests to employ an officer. Secretary Yvonne Lovedee said the employment of an engagement officer would help the group expand its functions and improve their ability to help the public. “The success of this funding is not just for the benefit of MWMA, it will enable us to provide resources and help other multicultural groups with their capacity building,” Ms Lovedee said. Centacare CEO David Power said working with MWMA would improve how the charity worked with the multicultural community. “Centacare is delighted to partner with MWMA and supporting the great work they are doing within our community” Mr Power said.
