Former Brigades and current East Fremantle star Jed Hagan has taken a step closer to an AFL dream after earning an invitation to the national combine later this year.

It is the first time the national combine will be held since 2019 due to COVID and will enable AFL prospects to show off their skills before the draft in November.

Out of the 67 players invited, just 12 were from WA after the State side won just one of four matches in the recent under-18s carnival.

Hagan was one of three East Fremantle players selected for the combine, along with Jedd Busslinger and Reuben Ginbey, after he impressed at the carnival and continued that form into the WAFL.

Hagan was in league action again on the weekend in a top-of-the-table clash against West Perth but was kept relatively quiet with just seven disposals and four tackles in the 11.10 (76) to 5.10 (40) defeat to the Falcons.

The combine will run from October 7 to 9 at Marvel Stadium, with athletic testing taking place at Melbourne Park sporting complex.

State-based combines will also be taking place for those not invited to the national event, with WA’s on October 16.
