Geraldton’s Queens Park Theatre and Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival are the beneficiaries of a Lotterywest funding boost, sharing in $81,000 worth of grants.

The funding will help engage and connect the community with the arts and cultural sector, and City of Greater Geraldton Mayor thanked Lotterywest for its ongoing support in this arena.

“The City has continued to receive generous funding from Lotterywest since 1990 and it goes a long way in providing for our community,” he said.

“This particular grant allows us to keep delivering events and shows which ultimately help to add to the social fabric of our wonderful city.”

A grant of $70,000 was awarded to the QPT to help bring six shows to the region this financial year, including shows in Geraldton, Mullewa and Walkaway.

Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival, which last month wrapped up its 2023 event, received $11,000 to help deliver the annual festival and continue to attract a high calibre of literary guests.

Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton said she was pleased to see Lotterywest grants distributed in the community.

“Events such as Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival celebrate our Geraldton identity and long history of being a centre for arts, heritage and literature,” she said.
