Geraldton’s Sunshine Festival comes to life after three-year hiatus with same sense of community support

WA’s longest running regional festival right here in Geraldton returned on the weekend after a three-year sabbatical, but not much has changed in the way of community support for the Sunshine Festival. Crowds of about 5000 people attended the event on Sunday, October 1, which had more than 55 stall holders showcasing Geraldton’s best arts, crafts and food for the community. Festival president Ian Fisher said the parade was a highlight for the festival, which was in its 62nd year of operation. “It was a great day, the weather was just right, everyone seemed to be having a good time and the parade was great as always,” he said. The BMX stunt show was a crowd favourite, and Mr Fisher sang the praises of the daredevils who helped keep everyone entertained. It was the festival’s first year returning after a three-year pandemic pause, but the support for the family-friendly event is still there. “It wouldn’t be possible without the support from local businesses, to come back to this level of support after a break it fantastic to see,” Mr Fisher said. The committee will have their first meeting to bring in the 2024 festival in March, and is hoping to see more parade and float entrants for the 63rd edition.
