Almost 150 women had a relaxing and pampered start to their working day last Wednesday when they attended a networking breakfast at Indah Day Spa.

Organised by Women Inspiring Better Business, the monthly event was hosted at Indah’s luxury premises on Lewis Street, just off Chapman Road.

About 140 women turned up to network, tour the day spa, enjoy a hand and arm massage (if they were lucky enough) and to hear from the driving force behind Indah, owner Tess Turner.

Ms Turner opened Indah in Geraldton in 2009 with a business partner, before taking over. In 2023, they moved into their new premises, with more space, treatment rooms and a modern feel. The new Indah also includes a wellness studio, which is used to host make-up tutorials and kids’ spa parties, as well as rented out for activities like yoga.

She now has a team of 27 women working at Indah.

Ms Turner told the crowd of some of the challenges she faces while expanding.

“When you’re upscaling, there’s a lot to it that I didn’t know and I learnt along the way, some of it the hard way,” she said.

“We budgeted, unfortunately through the time that we did scale up was a really tricky time and a lot of costs skyrocketed so it’s been quite a challenge in that sense. It’s almost like starting a whole new business over again . . . but it’s been great.”

Ms Turner’s biggest piece of advice centred on what her own business is all about — wellness and self-care.

“I think there’s a real hustle mentality, especially for women, and I got lost in that, feeling like you need to do everything and be there for everyone,” she said.

“Something that I have learnt is that it’s so important just to take some time out for yourself, every now and again.”
