Glenn Raymond Cooper to stand trial in Geraldton over alleged shooting

A man who allegedly fired a homemade shotgun during a confrontation with a man who damaged his property in Utakarra last year will go to trial on December 7. Glenn Raymond Cooper reappeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court this week, with lawyer Julia Gray saying they were prepared to fight the charges. In March, the 37-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing ammunition without a licence, possessing drug paraphernalia, and possessing a prohibited weapon. He entered not guilty pleas for endangering the life, health or safety of a person and three further weapons charges. Police allege Mr Cooper shot at Shannon Thomas Woods — almost hitting two bystanders — after Woods, 26, smashed three CCTV cameras in front of Cooper’s home on November 26. Clematis Crescent was locked down for hours as forensic officers investigated the scene, allegedly uncovering a cache of weapons and ammunition inside his house. Prosecutors told the court the hearing was expected to take one day and they would be calling four police witnesses to testify — suggesting neither Woods nor the bystanders would give evidence. Ms Gray said negotiations over the charges with police were ongoing and she would bring the matter back before the court if a solution was reached. Woods was fined on December 10 after pleading guilty to criminal damage for breaking the cameras.
