Global rider backs city plan

A young pushbike fanatic and adventurer is backing the Geraldton Cycle Plan. And in a heart-rending and emotional visual and verbal presentation in Geraldton recently, Jimmy Ashby inspired those with dreams of making Geraldton more bike friendly. “I love what Geraldton’s trying to do with this (cycle plan),” he said. “It will create an amazing environment and help grow the place into a more rounded community.” Two years ago, when only 18, Mr Ashby sold everything he didn’t need and said goodbye to the comfort of home and the people he loved to cycle 39,100km around the world. Adelaide-based Mr Ashby crossed 32 countries and four continents. These days, he travels around Australia sharing his journey via stories and film. In Geraldton, Mr Ashby told of the person he became through the lows he faced and the beauty he found in the most remote corners of the world. “There were lessons of resilience, passion and happiness and I developed techniques to use in my day-to-day life,” he said. “With each tough moment, I became stronger mentally and emotionally. “We all have our own world to cycle. You must create inspiration to strive and follow your passions. “No idea is too crazy; it’s about developing the courage and drive to take it on.
