GNFL colts grand final: Mullewa achieve grand final redemption after taking down Northampton

Mullewa colts are the champions after storming back to defeat Northampton 8.10 (58) to 8.2 (50) in the 2023 Great Northern Football League grand final over the weekend. The young gun Saints show a bright future at Mullewa, with the team going undefeated in matches they played this season (they lost some due to forfeit). The premiership decider looked to be playing out heavily in Northampton’s favour, with the Rams leading for the first three quarters. The first quarter had Northampton up by 10 points, and their lead kept building, with the young Rams side going into the half up by 21 points. However, the Mullewa side turned it around in the second half, holding the Rams to just two goals in the half, while they piled on six to win themselves the flag. In the end, Mullewa emerged winners, 8.10 (58) to 8.2 (50). The flag gives Mullewa grand final redemption after they fell short in the big game last season to Towns, but the side came back much stronger to take it all this year. The Alan Cox medal for best on ground was awarded to Mullewa’s Xavier Cotterill.
