GNFL colts grand final: The Towns crush Mullewa to claim back-to-back colts titles

Fourth-placed Mullewa took on second-placed Towns in the Colts grand final at the Country Builders Stadium on Saturday, with the Bulldogs coming out as comfortable winners. The Towns had a 94-point margin on the final whistle 19.6 (120) to Mullewa’s 4.2 (26). The Towns got off to a flying start with superbly placed goals from Trevor Adams and Mitchell Marsh in quick succession and the Bulldogs scoring virtually every two minutes in the opening period. Mullewa were swamped from the offset, managing one behind and a goal on the 16-minute mark. The Saints were unable to answer the Towns onslaught resorting to some off-the-ball niggles and barracking. The first quarter saw the Towns with a clear lead 5.1 (31) to 1.1 (7) for Mullewa. The Towns managed to increase their lead going into the half time break, pinning the Saints back and only allowing them a minor score for the entire quarter. The Towns extended their lead 10.3 (63) to the Saints 1.2 (8). The Towns Taj Satie was unstoppable all game and in particular for the Bulldogs in their second half. Satie scored seven minutes into the period after taking a superbly placed mark. Satie then followed up with another sneaky goal only minutes later, picking the ball up, avoiding a minor score and showing composure under pressure to get the full six points. The Bulldogs ran the play for the full game and at times Mullewa looked lost, without any sort of game plan. They managed three goals in the second half but were unable to put a good run together. The Towns saw goals from across the team, with Satie grabbing six, Bartley Blurton two, Trevor Adams with three, Mitchell Marsh with two and singles from across the squad. The Bulldog’s 94-point margin was well deserved with superb performances from Satie, Blair Green-Headland and Adams. The Towns strength was evident across the oval. Towns league coach — who was an assistant coach on the day — Dale Baynes was over the moon with his side’s performance. “Fantastic effort from the boys, they are all ecstatic and really relishing the reward for effort over the whole season,” he said.
