GNFL Round 4: Railways mark ‘Scurge’s’ passing with a massive win over Chapman Valley

Railways have marked the passing of club stalwart Craig ‘Scurge’ Butler with a dominant 146-point win over Chapman Valley in round four of the 2022 GNFL Season. Both sides paid respects to the former Railways president with a minute’s silence before the game, while Railways sported black armbands in memory of the much-loved figure. Spurred on by the occasion, Railways kicked 24.16 (160) while holding Chapman Valley to just 2.2 (14). The 146-point win keeps them top of the ladder with a percentage of 248. Fresh off of his match-winning performance for the Geraldton Buccaneers on Saturday night, Johny Narkle bagged four goals for the Blues. Jack Cocking led the way with six goals and Jesse Adamini joined in on the action with four. Mitchell Boyle, Benjamin Saunders, and Jesse Moore also impressed for Railways. Meanwhile, Rovers continued their unbeaten start to the 2022 GNFL season with a 25-point win over Northampton at Greenough Oval in round four. The 14.13 (97) to 10.12 (72) win moves Rovers up to third on the GNFL ladder, behind Railways and Brigades on percentage. It’s the second time in recent weeks Rams have pushed one of the top teams in the competition, following their 17-point loss to Brigades in round two. This result means Rams currently sit in fourth spot with one win out of their four league games. Joshua Simpson kicked four goals for the Rovers and Nathaniel Mourambine bagged three goals for the Rams. Standouts for the Rovers included Dylan Curley, Joseph Ugle, Gabriel Parfitt, Kobe Simpson and Farren Parfitt. Flynn Dillon, Jack McQuie, Joshua Normington, Harrison Pluschke and Liam Campbell impressed for Northampton. Rovers will now face Chapman Valley in round five, while Northampton have a bye.
