GNFLW round 14 preview: Towns look to tame the Rams while Rovers in last chance saloon

With the top four teams locked in, the final rounds of the GNFLW are all about positions as we head into round 14 of the GNFLW this weekend.
It should be a high-class match at Country Builders Stadium as the second-placed Towns take on the third-placed Rams.
Towns are coming off a bye but have won their past six games in a row while Rams have won their last four games in a row having all but ended Mullewa’s finals hopes on the weekend.
However, their last loss was to the Bulldogs as they were kept to just two behinds the 24-point loss.
It is also the only time this season the Rams have not kicked a goal and have averaged just over 51 points a game on their recent run.
Towns haven’t managed to score more than that since June 4 when they thumped a hapless Rovers side.
But the Bulldogs’ strength lies more in their defensive game having only conceded 23 points in the past month of footy and kept teams goalless on three occasions.
With pressure like that, they haven’t needed to kick big scores with the two-pronged attack of Samantha Biddiscombe and Ashleigh Jones often more than enough.
They also have Olivia Bidwell who has received best player nominations in every single game she has played this season and was rewarded with a country team jersey earlier this year.
Rams have stars of their own as Asha Poletti is having an outstanding year along with Mikenna Schultz, but the key to getting a win will be finding a way to score, which a lot may rest on forward Maddi Miller.
In the other matches, Chapman Valley should have more than enough firepower to overcome Mullewa.
The Royals haven’t even conceded a single point in July and it would take an almighty intervention to see the Saints cause an upset.
At Greenough it’s probably the Rovers’ last chance to see if they pick up a win this season as they take on Brigades.
Brigades have only won twice this season but when they last played the Demons they kept them to one point in a thumping win.
Rovers haven’t been anywhere near the other teams this season reflected in their percentage of 7.4 and while extremely unlikely a win would give them something to work with for next year.
