GNFLW round 7: Towns rally to solidify as ladder leaders while Rovers claim second win ever

The Towns ladies dominated in the battle for first and second over Northampton last weekend, while Rovers claimed their second win in the club’s history.
In the battle for top of the table, Towns overpowered Northampton 9.8 (62) to 1.2 (8).
The rain was a factor all day across all grades, but the Bulldogs had no issue scoring at Wonthella Oval in the win.
Towns continued to build their tally while keeping the Rams scoreless in the second half.
Samantha Biddiscombe kicked a four-goal haul in the win, aided by two from Gemma Dix and Jessica Giudice-Nairn.
The win extends Towns’ undefeated streak to five wins and no losses. After being tested by Valley last week, they are now the clear ladder leaders.
Friday night saw the Saints and Demons play at Greenough Oval, with the fixtures changed around due to issues with Mullewa Oval.
In the fixture, the Rovers ladies got up to claim their second win in club history, taking down Mullewa 4.14 (38) to 0.0 (0).
It was their best win to date, with the side previously only having one win that came in a 15-point triumph last year, also against the Saints.
The Demons enjoyed a hat-trick from Sharntay Westberg in the win, along with Shanelle Jetta adding a goal.
At Mazzuchelli Oval, Chapman Valley once again found redemption in the grand final rematch against Brigades 3.8 (26) to 0.2 (2).
The contest was played in muddy conditions but that didn’t stop the Royals, who got up thanks to two goals from Lucinda Rouse and one from Tayah Palmer.
It looked to be a shutout for Chapman Valley, but the Hawks were able to respond with two late behinds in the fourth.
The win enabled the Royals to jump the Rams for second on the ladder, while Rovers now sit inside the four with a chance to play finals for the first time.
