GolfWA bringing skills to young stars in Geraldton

Keen young golfers in Geraldton will have a chance to bring their skills above par with regional junior development programs. The Mid West city is one of four regional places that have been selected to run the program, which aims to help aspiring golfers in the regions work on their game. It will focus primarily on their short game with skill development and skill testing sessions. Four to six sessions are planned throughout 2025. GolfWA game development manager Marc Pike said they wanted to grow the sport for keen young golfers in the regions. “Our goal is to create decentralised programs for junior talent development all over the State so that aspiring golfers in any regional areas have access to GolfWA pathways,” he said. “The programs mirror what is being driven in our metro-based Talent Development Program. “We are fortunate to have regional clubs, facilities and passionate PGA coaches that are committed to growing participation Statewide. “We want to support their capacity to retain and nurture this talent, as well as work with Regional Academies of Sport to offer young golfers high-performance environments on their doorstep.” The first of the four programs ran on Saturday at the Geraldton Golf Club and the next will be on Tuesday at Spalding Park. The following two sessions will be in Geraldton on October 5 and at Spalding on November 9. Registrations must be made online through the GolfWA website.
