Government signs $6m contract for major conservation works at Geraldton Heritage Precinct Ngurra Barlunggu

The Cook Government has signed a $6 million contract to kick off major conservation works at the Geraldton Heritage Precinct (Ngurra Barlunggu), marking a significant milestone in the site’s revitalisation. Perth-based heritage restoration specialists CLPM have been appointed by the National Trust of Western Australia to carry out the project, which will include repairs and upgrades across the historic precinct. The site, which includes a collection of late Victorian and early Federation-era buildings such as the original Victoria District Hospital, plays an important role in the Mid West’s culture and economic identity. Buildings within the site are leased to a number of community organisations and tourism-focused enterprises. Heritage Minister Simone McGurk said the project would support both preservation and continued community use of the precinct. “This is an exciting milestone for Geraldton Heritage Precinct Ngurra Barlunggu, and we’re proud to be working on this important initiative,” she said. “Many of the buildings within the precinct are commercially leased to a variety of local community organisations and tourism-focused enterprises. “This project ensures that the unique heritage of Geraldton is preserved and continues to contribute to the vibrancy of the Mid West.”
