Eight drivers allegedly tested positive to methamphetamine and cannabis after police tested hundreds of motorists on football grand final day in Geraldton.

A drug and breath bus from Perth joined Geraldton police and Mid West Gascoyne Traffic officers, who tested drivers on roads surrounding Wonthella’s WA Country Builders Stadium, where Great Northern Football League colts, reserves and league grand finals were played on Sunday.

A Geraldton police spokesman said first-time offenders could expect to receive a fine while repeat offenders could receive a fine and have their licences suspended.

Police said crowds at the games were well behaved.
