Green takes third at national championships in latest success for one of the Mid West’s busiest athletes

Local star Abby Green returned from her latest championships and you would find it hard to find someone with a busier sporting calendar than her. The Year 12 Geraldton Grammar student competed at the Marcus Oldham National Interschool Championships in Sydney and is one of the most decorated Equestrian WA Interschool riders in the State. This year was her fifth time representing WA at the national event, competing in combined training and showjumping. Green and her pool horse placed seventh overall in the combined training championship and in the 90cm showjumping championships she won one class and finished top-10 in the others. The combined results saw her complete the podium for a third-placed finish. Green enjoyed the championships and was happy to come away with the result. “It was a pretty good experience,” she said. “It’s the fifth one I’ve been to and using a pool horse I got to meet some great new people and catch up with other friends in the sport.” Green can usually be found around some sort of sporting field as she plays for Wanderers Cricket Club, being selected in the WA country women’s squad as well as winning the Rovers Football Club champion award and being part of the Football Development Squad and earning all-star selection in the Geraldton Hockey Association. When asked if there is a sport she hasn’t tried her hand at, she laughed, “golf”. “I enjoy them all and my passion for sport and love for it is what keeps me going,” she said. “It would probably narrow down in the future but I have no plans to do that just yet.”
