Gregg Stephen McVee: Paynesville fatal accused set to be heard in Cue court after appearing in Geraldton

The man alleged to be involved in a crash which claimed the life of a 63-year-old man in the Mid West is set to have his matters moved to another court. Gregg Stephen McVee made his first appearance in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Friday, appearing via phone. He is facing one charge of dangerous driving in circumstances, which subsequently resulted in death. Police allege the 42-year-old had been driving a prime mover with two trailers on Mt Magnet-Sandstone Road in Paynesville at about 12.25pm on Sunday November 3, when a collision occurred with a Mazda BT-50 utility. The driver of the Mazda died at the scene while Mr McVee avoided serious injury, according to police. Police say Mr McVee was arrested days later in Dalyellup in the State’s South West. Mr McVee’s defence counsel requested the matter be moved to Bunbury Magistrates Court so he could more easily attend. Magistrate Matthew Walton said it wouldn’t be possible given where the offence occurred. The matter was set to be moved to Cue Magistrates Court, but a suitable date in the remainder of 2024 could not be found. Instead, it was adjourned in Geraldton until Thursday January 2, 2025 with the next court hearing to be heard in Cue. Mr McVee was not required to enter a plea, and remains on bail with a requirement to report to Bunbury Police Station once a week.
