Gregg Stephen McVee: Truck driver pleads not guilty over fatal crash in Paynesville that killed 63yo man

A 43-year-old truck driver — accused of causing a fatal crash in the remote Mid West last year and being affected by drugs when doing so — is set to stand trial after pleading not guilty this week. Gregg Stephen McVee appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Monday where he entered pleas of not guilty to one count each of dangerous driving resulting in death and driving while impaired by drugs. Those charges relate to a crash in Paynesville on November 3 last year in which a 63-year-old man was killed. Mr McVee also pleaded not guilty to an unrelated trespass charge. Police allege Mr McVee was driving a prime mover with two trailers on Mt Magnet-Sandstone Road in Paynesville about 12.25pm on Sunday, November 3 when a collision occurred with a Mazda BT-50 utility. Paynesville is an abandoned town in between Mt Magnet and Sandstone. The driver of the Mazda died at the scene from critical injuries, while Mr McVee sustained minor injuries. Major crash officers investigated the crash and police arrested Mr McVee days later in Dalyellup in the State’s South West. He was initially charged with dangerous driving resulting in death, and later charged with driving while impaired by drugs. Mr McVee is on bail and is due back in Geraldton Magistrates Court for a trial allocation date on November 6.
