Guided walk adds new twist

It’s got some twists — and it’s got a couple of Olivers. In fact, ‘Walk With Me’ is largely because of Oliver Canny and Oliver Atkinson. The pair, aged 16 and 12 and next week set to start year 12 and year 8 at Nagle Catholic College, are about to take people on a walking and talking tour of Geraldton. You will do the walking; they will do the talking. ‘Walk With Me’ is an audio walking tour of the city — with a look to tomorrow as imagined by the youth of today. It will be launched at the Geraldton Visitor Centre on Saturday. ‘Walk With Me’ is a production of Art On The Move and the Riptide Youth Performance Company. It was comprised by the two Olivers, Lucy Collier and Al Mupotaringa and Jody Quaidro of Euphorium. “The initiative was designed to engage the skills of young locals to create audio tours in different towns as part of a regional tour,” Ms Quaidro said. “The tour starts at the visitor centre and goes to where the Yamatji eggs are just north of Dome. It’s not too long, but a nice walk.” The Olivers and friends took a few days to write the tour — and a day to record it. “Our favourite part was talking about the beach,” they said in unison.
