Harmony in Geraldton as festival unites differences in culture, entertainment and cuisine

Geraldton’s Harmony Festival will unite cultures for another year as the community celebrates the rich diversity of the Mid West region through music, dance and cuisine. People are urged to join the multicultural Harmony Festival on Saturday, March 16 and travel to parts of Africa, China, India and Indonesia as performers hit the stage to show the parts of their culture that make them unique. Held at Stow Gardens from 11am-3pm, headline act SambOzzy will bring the authentic essence of Rio De Janeiro’s Carnival to Geraldton’s family-friendly event. The Midwest Multicultural Association is proud to bring the lively rhythmic sounds of Perth’s premier Brazilian band as they bang it out on drums while radiant Samba dancers enchant the crowd. Birdlife Midwest will present Farewell to Shorebirds, which tells a story about migratory birds enjoying the WA summer before flying thousands of kilometres through countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, China and Japan to return to Russia and Siberia for nesting. MWMA chair Noma Mahlangu said this year’s theme was You, Me Us!, and encouraged families to come down and see what was on offer. “Although we come from different corners of the world, we come together in celebration of our diversity,” she said. Teenagers will be busy participating in wheelchair basketball, golf, giant Jenga and more at Remaja World, while the younger ones can head over to Watoto World to enjoy activities such as face painting, archery, and mini workshops, or jump on the bouncy castles.
