Heartbreak as crash denies Geraldton rider Nationals win in final tri-series event of motocross season

The inter-club motocross events came to a close in Geraldton as riders partcicpated in the final round of the Tri-Series event in the Motocross 2022 calendar. Riders from multiple motor disciplines, including 65cc, 85cc, 150cc and quads, all braved the fast grade track, including riders from hosts the Geraldton Junior and Senior Motocross club. Conditions were ideal, with the weather allowing for fast bends and faster straight runs. Local riders and national competitors Angus Fay and Addison Orr rode well amongst the experienced and talented competition. Addison finished third in the 85cc/150cc senior group, while Angus came first in the 85cc/150cc junior division and 65cc group. Unfortunately, local legend Mackinnley Orr had a tumble and was taken to hospital with a small fracture in the wrist and a broken femur. He had one-and-a-half laps to go to win the tri-series before he crashed over a jump, denying him what would have been a certain overall victory. His mum Jo Orr said ‘Macca’ was “doing OK”. “Had a big first day of rehab and is up walking (in a sense) which is great,” she said. “Emotionally he is fairly devastated to miss Nationals.” The club and everyone concerned wished him a speedy recovery.
