Higher temperatures call for hire solutions

When they arrived in Geraldton on New Year’s Eve, Craig and Liz Slattery wanted to stretch their legs after a drive from Margaret River. But something was stopping them from beating the bitumen — concern for the paws of Abby, their five-year-old golden retriever. “You see people walking their dogs in very high temperatures. Would they walk on the footpaths in bare feet in 40C? They wouldn’t, it’s not right,” Mrs Slattery said. So the couple went in search of pushbikes with a carrying compartment for Abby. “She’s a bit unsure about what’s happening and cannot work out what it’s about,” Mrs Slattery said. “We’ve hired it for four or five days, so she should get used to it.” The couple, from the Central Coast of NSW, moved west about four months ago, so mines worker Mr Slattery could continue his job and avoid COVID-19 border closures. “We’re taking the opportunity to see places in WA. We love it and may even move here,” Mr Slattery said.
