Vandals have smashed a number of stained glass windows at Geraldton’s iconic St Francis Xavier Cathedral overnight, causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.

Geraldton police attended the crime scene about 8.30am this morning.

A Geraldton police spokeswoman said the damage bill had not been confirmed but estimated it could be in the tens of thousands.

She said no one had yet been charged over the “senseless damage” but police were gathering CCTV footage from the area.
