Following the success that local players had during the Hockey Masters tournament in Perth, Geraldton is launching a local competition for players aged 40 and up. The Geraldton Hockey Association posted on social media about the interest they have received for a Masters competition in recent years. The local competition will begin on October 19 and run as a four-week season, with the possibility of a longer season coming if support is received. There will be men’s and women’s team for players that are aged 40 and above who are currently not listed in an A-grade side for the regular GHA competition. During the WA Masters Hockey Tournament that ran in Perth last week, Geraldton had representatives in the over-45s team, as well as the over-70s team. The 45s gold side managed to secure a bronze medal over Queensland with the help of Geraldton local Dirranie Kirby. While the 70s team also grabbed a bronze medal with Kerry Hood, Aileen Booth, and Carol Haynes all bolstering the side. The seven a side season is set to begin on October 19.
