Geraldton dressage champ Eliza Hebiton 'born in the saddle'

Ruth Hebiton said her daughter, Eliza, was “born in the saddle” and she showed such during the Geraldton Combined Equestrian Club’s annual dressage event at Woorree Park. The Hebitons co-own Bonsai Jacks riding school and this was their “big championships” — a chance for riders to show their skills. Eliza Hebiton, a rider with big dreams, won champion overall horse, and would like to compete at a national grand prix. When she is not honing her skills, she coaches at Bonsai Jacks. “It’s hard work, but it’s so rewarding,” she said. “When our students compete and do well, it’s almost as rewarding as when I do well.” One student, Lily Piesse, 13, took out champion overall pony. “My favourite thing about riding is my horse, Autumn, which my family bought three years ago,” she said. “I really want to ride at the Royal Show in Perth.” Geraldton Combined Equestrian Club chairman Ross Newman said spectators were always welcome at events. “(We have) monthly competitions from March to September and coaching clinics throughout the year,” he added.
