Hundreds of Yamaji people are expected to converge on Edith Cowan Square opposite Geraldton Courthouse this morning.

The Geraldton Guardian understands this will be the scene of a Federal Court sitting to determine a native title settlement covering 48,000sqkm of Geraldton and Mid West land.

The Guardian understands more than 500 people voted to accept the Yamatji Nation Southern Regional Agreement at a Geraldton meeting in December.

WA Aboriginal Affairs Minister Ben Wyatt attended, saying community support for the agreement was unprecedented.

The Guardian further understands an Indigenous Land Use Agreement is to be signed at the same time for a range of State Government benefits focused heavily on economic independence for Yamaji claimants.
