Hundreds receive recognition for tireless community work at Centacare Volunteer of the Year Awards

More than 120 volunteers and organisations gathered at the Queens Park Theatre on Tuesday last week for International Volunteer Day, celebrating the selfless dedication and contributions they pour into their community. Volunteers and organisations in many different fields were recognised at the Centacare Volunteer of the Year Awards ceremony, honouring the remarkable efforts of those working tirelessly to serve their community. The award nominees showcased their passion, talent, and resilience, making it difficult for the judging panel to pick the winners. Jo Bunker was named the volunteer of the year, while 15-year-old Cameron English took home the youth volunteer of the year award. Foodbank Geraldton received the volunteer-involving organisation of the year honour. Volunteer manager of the year was awarded to Craig Groves, and the director’s choice community service of the year award went to Jenny Beaver. Jodi Reilly received the Kate Rickerby recognition award, and Marnie Ryan received the Tom Mwangi recognition award for their exceptional service to the Mid West community. A Centacare Family Services spokesperson expressed their appreciation to the volunteers who attended the awards ceremony. “(Your) invaluable contributions to our community are immeasurable and their selflessness sets an admirable example for all,” the spokesperson said. “Their dedication serves as a source of inspiration to us all, demonstrating how one person’s actions can create ripples of positive change in society.”
