Geraldton will be awash in blue and gold this weekend as the city backs the Geraldton Buccaneers in its bid to win its second State Basketball League title.

And the colours will fly in the capital city, with up to 700 people expected to travel to Perth from Geraldton for the grand final against the Joondalup Wolves tomorrow night.

The Geraldton Basketball Association was offered 500 tickets for the final, with more than 300 being sold by late Wednesday.

GABA spokeswoman Nerolie Gerreyn said “many tickets” had been bought pre the Bucaneers’ allocation.

“I would think between 500 and 700 people will go down from here — and I’m told a lot of other people who are going will be barracking for the Buccs,” she said.

“We have a big group together, but have been told there will be pockets of supporters around the (Perry Lakes) stadium.”

Meanwhile, various Geraldton hotels are testing their visual and sound systems to see if they can livestream the final.

“They want to make sure they can do it before promoting it,” Ms Gerreyn said.

One of the biggest winners is the Comfort Inn and Suites Goodearth Perth — a “home away from home” for the Buccs when they play in Perth.

“We’re loving it and are close to booked out,” Bob Perovic, director of sales, said.

“The Buccs are well behaved when they come here — we’d like them in the finals all the time.”
