International Women’s Day: Almost 100 women turn up for early morning foreshore dip and meditation

There are many women making waves in Geraldton all year round, but on International Women’s Day on Wednesday a group of women decided to make a splash. Almost 100 women gathered on the Geraldton foreshore on Wednesday for the Sunrise International Women’s Day Dip and Meditation. Swimming out to the pontoon, women of all ages, all backgrounds and all shapes dove off with joy and abandon. Event co-ordinator Jodi Reilly said the occasion brought women from all walks of life together to celebrate the achievements of females worldwide. The free community event aimed to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for women to connect with one another. Participants were encouraged to leave shame, blame, and criticism behind and bask in the unfiltered laughter, love, and connection, and the reminder to prioritise themselves. “Prioritising me was something I never did. I had to learn it,” Ms Reilly said. “It’s an honour to provide a space where women can connect with each other and celebrate International Women’s Day. “It’s wonderful to see women come together and celebrate each other’s achievements, no matter how big or small. “I love that this event meets people where they are at, no matter where they have been or where they are going. “Some people had never swum to the pontoon or meditated, but they still showed up. There were many firsts at this special event.” The response to the event was overwhelmingly positive. One participant shared she had been meaning to attend but always got “too busy” doing other things. However, during her meditation, she expressed that those things could have waited. Another participant shared that meditation was just what she needed after experiencing some hard times. Wendy Mann, who took part in the event, said she felt invigorated. “It was wonderful to be part of the group who celebrated International Women’s Day with an early swim — jumping off the pontoon like a 15-year-old and then to benefit from the thoughtful meditation led by Jodi. It was a beautiful way to start the day,” she said.
