Jasmine Johansen becomes latest Mid West product to make WAFLW debut

As the old adage goes, one brings two as Jasmine Johansen was selected to make her league debut with East Fremantle this weekend. Just a week after Tayah Palmer was selected to become the first player from the elite Mid West talent squad to make her debut, Johansen will now join her when the Sharks take on South Fremantle this weekend. While it is hard to have a body of work as impressive as Palmer’s, Johansen has had an outstanding 12 months as the reigning Railways women’s player of the year. The 17-year-old made her Rogers Cup debut last year playing two games while she was one of the best at country week last year being named in the all-star squad and was the joint-best player at last week’s GNFL All-Star clash. Speaking before that clash, her father and Mid West talent coach Nathan Johansen believed she was a 50:50 chance of making her debut, and her selection and Palmer’s should be great motivation for all girls in the squad. “The girls’ program is full steam ahead and Jas and Tayah’s selections should hopefully inspire and encourage the others to bigger and better things,” he said. The Sharks are scheduled to take on the Bulldogs at 5pm on April 22 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
