Jed Hagan reunites with Brynn Teakle at East Fremantle after SANFL stint, as coach predicts AFL dream not over

East Fremantle premiership coach Bill Monaghan “wouldn’t be surprised” if the Sharks lost ruck recruit Brynn Teakle for a second time mid-season. The Northampton product has rejoined the Sharks fresh from six AFL games for Port Adelaide who secured him with pick No.8 in the 2022 mid-season draft. Teakle, 24, and a hulking 204cm, also trained over the summer with reigning AFL premier Collingwood, but did not win a spot on their list despite impressing in their preseason trials. “Brynn is unlucky not to still be on an AFL list,” Monaghan told ABC Radio. “I would think he hasn’t given up on his AFL dream and as much as we would hate to lose him again mid-season, I wouldn’t completely rule that out.” The Sharks secured last year’s premiership without a No. 1 ruckman, with key forward Hugh Dixon who has since joined Queensland team Southport, leading the charge on grand final day against Peel’s twin talls Liam Reidy and Riley Smith. But Teakle isn’t the only former Mid West star to be returning to the Shark pack as Jed Hagan is also back west after a stint for Port Adelaide in their SANFL side. “Jed tried his luck in Adelaide, played with the Port Adelaide SANFL side and came third in their fairest and best, kicked 20 odd goals playing as a small forward,” Monaghan said. “He gives us a few options, either as a midfielder or a high half forward.” Geraldton’s Hagan was surprisingly overlooked in the 2022 AFL draft but has continued to impress at the State level and will be a huge boost for East Fremantle’s quest to secure back-to-back flags.
