Josh Kennedy prepares to suit up for Northampton in this week’s GNFL grand final

After returning to his junior club for their first final, West Coast great Josh Kennedy is preparing to lace up for Northampton once again to help the team try to win their first GNFL flag since 2004. Kennedy made his first return for the Rams on July 16, when he played against Towns alongside Mark Le Cras and kicked 4.3. In his second game back Kennedy didn’t have the same impact on the scoreboard — kicking 1.3 in the Rams’ win against Brigades in the qualifying final — but his presence was still felt on the field. The retired AFL champion will now get another chance to help the Rams break their premiership drought in Saturday’s decider against Railways. “Northampton’s in the grand final, it’s been 19 years, so we play Railways,” Kennedy told SEN on Tuesday. “Railways beat Brigades, who finished on top this year, in the prelim. So we’ve got Railways on Saturday which will be cool.” The grand final will be just the third game of competitive footy that Kennedy has played since retiring from the Eagles at the end of last year. “Just feeling better, should be able to go to training...Friday night is when I will be able to get up to training again,” Kennedy said. “Just recovered, the knee has slowly come down...it just gets a bit achy and I had my bursitis through the back of my knee...so its just a big hard lump but its started to drain, which is cool.”
