Juvenile granted bail over alleged L’Italiano, Geraldton Fruit and Vegetable Supply burglaries

A Geraldton teenager who broke into a fruit and vegetable shop and restaurant in one night last year has been granted bail. The 16-year-old appeared from custody in Geraldton Children’s Court on Thursday charged with burglary with intent, burglary and commit and stealing. Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Birkinshaw alleged the boy and a co-accused jumped a fence to enter Geraldton Fruit and Vegetable Supply on Sunday, November 6. The pair looked for items to steal but didn’t take anything before leaving the store. They are also accused of kicking the front door at L’Italiano restaurant open and stealing a cash till containing $250. The juvenile was later arrested. In making an application for bail, defence lawyer Veronica Randall said the 16-year-old had a funeral in Carnarvon this weekend and one in February in Geraldton. The court was also told the teen had a minimal record. Magistrate Angus Hockton agreed to grant bail, stating it “seems wrong that he should spend time in custody”. Bail conditions include a 7am-7pm curfew. The boy will reappear in Geraldton Children’s court on January 10.
