Juveniles caught on CCTV in attempted burglary at Cafe Fleur in broad daylight on Monday public holiday
Two juvenile boys who were allegedly captured on CCTV trying and failing to break into a local cafe through a window are facing charges of attempted burglary.
Geraldton police will allege two teenagers aged 15 and 17 flexed open a flyscreen window to Cafe Fleur on Marine Terrace in an attempt to break in. A cafe employee confirmed the attempt occurred at 4.30pm on Monday, September 25, which was a public holiday.
Geraldton police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Chris Martin said a representative from Fleur Cafe arrived at work and noticed the window had been bent backwards.
“After reviewing the CCTV, (the representative) observed two individuals trying to get through a window but failed to gain access,” he said.
Sen Sgt Martin said police conducted a local investigation on Wednesday and arrested a 15-year-old boy who was charged with burglary with intent.
A Cafe Fleur employee said it was frightening that criminals would attempt to break in in broad daylight.
“They (allegedly) tried to open the fly screen and noticed the camera,” they said.
“They threw a rock at the camera (allegedly), but it was still still recording and captured their faces perfectly.”
The 15-year-old was bailed and will face Geraldton Magistrates Court on December 18. A 17-year-old remained in custody as a suspect at the time of publication.
