The top-of-the-table clash lived up to the billing as Aztecs fought back from seven goals down at the half to win 67-66 over Kazuals and keep their perfect season alive by the barest of margins.

All season Aztecs have been the pacesetters of the competition having won all nine of their games.

Just to underscore how dominant they have been the closest anyone has got to them in terms of margin was when Pumas forfeited resulting in a 20-0 result.

Kazuals have been comfortably second best only losing to Aztecs so far this season and if they couldn’t get over them here it’s hard to see how anyone will be able to challenge the Aztec dominance.

They started brightly edging the first quarter to take a one-goal lead before they put Aztecs under the most pressure they’ve felt all season with a 21 to 16 goal term to increase their advantage to seven.

It was the first time Aztecs played from this far behind after the half but they showed their class to turn the game around in a 20-goal quarter to take a slender 49-48 lead to set up a grandstand finish.

It was a shootout in the last quarter but Kazuals just could not overturn that one-goal deficit in a heartbreaking loss.

In the earlier game, the winless Falcons took on Pumas and looked on course for an upset after taking a one-goal lead before going in level at the half at 25.

Unfortunately, they could not hold on and were run down being outscored 30 goals to 15 in the second half to go down 55-40.

The results see Aztecs go six points clear at the top above Kazuals while Pumas remain in third on 10 points and Falcons last and without a win.

Next round the Lightning take on the Pumas and the unbeaten Aztecs take on the winless Falcons.
