Keeshorn Ryder: 23yo man accused of stealing credit card and trying to force way into Beachlands home remanded

A 23-year-old man accused of a string of traffic, drug and volume crime charges — including attempting to bust open a front door of a Beachlands property and stealing a credit card from a car — was remanded in custody this week. Keeshorn Ryder appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court from custody on Tuesday where he was faced with 11 new charges. The court was told Mr Ryder was due to appear in court on Monday, October 2 but did not show. The Mullewa man was scheduled to appear on charges of failing to stop, reckless driving and driving without a licence following a police pursuit in Greenough on Thursday, September 28. Outside court, Geraldton police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin alleged about 1am on Tuesday, Mr Ryder attempted to break open the front door to a Beachlands home after stealing a bank card from an unlocked car. He alleged Mr Ryder rummaged through a black 2017 Subaru sedan on Augustus Street, when he located and placed the bank card into his wallet. Sen. Sgt Martin accused Mr Ryder of then “forcefully” hitting the locked door to the property three times in an attempt to break in. The force damaged to the security screen fly wire and splintered the wooden door near the dead bolt and door frame. However, he did not gain access to the home. In a post to Facebook, the home occupant said he was woken to the noise of someone attempting to break down the door. “Got woken up to someone trying to literally kick my door to get entry, also into my car. . . he took off as soon as I turned my lights on,” the post said. Sen. Sgt Martin said police arrested Mr Ryder a short time later, allegedly in possession of the home occupant’s bank card. Mr Ryder was charged with stealing, attempted aggravated burglary with intent and breaching bail. Mr Ryder has also been charged with gains benefit by fraud, aggravated home burglary and commit, stealing a motor vehicle, stealing and burglary with intent relating to incidents in Stratton and Mt Hawthorn in Perth last week. In court, magistrate Angus Hockton said he recommended Mr Ryder seek legal advice before applying for bail as he was facing “very serious charges”. Mr Ryder was remanded in custody until he reappears in court on Friday, October 13. He is also facing a string of older charges, including graffiti and drug offences.
