State election 2021: Geraldton teacher to stand for Labor in Agricultural Region

Labor’s Upper House candidates have met in Geraldton to announce the team contesting the Agricultural Region at next year’s State election. Sandra Carr, a Year 12 English teacher at Nagle Catholic College who has lived in Geraldton for much of her life, has taken the number three position on the ticket. She will be joined by Labor’s number two pick and Esperance Shire councillor Shelley Payne, and sitting member Darren West, who retains his number one position. Agricultural Region MLC Laurie Graham will be retiring at the coming election. Announcing the new-look team Premier Mark McGowan said his Government would continue the investment in the region to ensure economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. “I want to thank Laurie for his hard work and advocacy and wish him and his wife Heather well in his retirement,” he said. Newly-announced Labor candidate Ms Carr said she looked forward to being a strong voice for the Agricultural Region and continuing the great work that the McGowan Government is doing in the Mid West.
