Ladies Day is back in fashion at Geraldton Turf Club with season’s first marquee event on this weekend

The Geraldton Turf Club is set to host its first big event as the women take over for Ladies Day this Sunday, October 15. The first weekend race of the season follows from the opener last Thursday and will have action happening on and off the track. In the horse racing, the day will have seven races with the sixth set to be 1200m Ladies Day Sprint, with the jump time scheduled to take place at 4.55pm. The field of 13 contains some strong competitors, while odds are not available yet but Albert looks to be a strong contender under jockey Troy Turner, coming up with two straight wins and finishing top three in the past four races. Mystic Love, ridden by Chris Nicoll, was in good form during the last season but has not raced since the end of last season, while Sauvegarde with jockey Madi Derrick has taken third in it’s past two races. The Fashions on the Field will be a spectacle to watch with ladies taking centre stage for the honour of best dressed. The winner will receive a custom-made dress valued at $1300, along with a $750 Mitchell & Brown voucher. Geraldton Turf Club manager David Wrenstead said the day had quickly become one of the most popular. “The one that we look forward to the most, certainly in the early part of the season is Ladies Day,” he said. “It’s fast growing into one of our more popular race meetings, it’s a big day of ladies fashion.” Ladies Day at Geraldton Turf Club is on this Sunday, October 15 with gates opening at 12pm and the first race set to jump at 2.05pm.
