Late night basketball season finishes with successful return in Geraldton for the first time since COVID

After taking a break because of COVID-19, the Late Night Basketball scene successfully returned to Geraldton. The eight-week program made its return earlier this year after taking a few years break because of COVID, with more than 150 players having the opportunity to hit the court. The program allows people aged 13 and up a chance to play basketball in an organised and structured environment. City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said he was rapt about the popularity of the returning season. “The 2023 season of Late Night Basketball saw 150 players join in over the course of eight weeks with an average of 60 players attending each Friday night,” he said. “We know programs such as this have an extremely positive flow-on effect to the wellbeing of our community so we were grateful to be able to welcome it back.” The season ran during term two for eight weeks, every Friday night, with the Blue Bottles taking the win. “A big congratulations goes to the Blue Bottles for taking home the trophy,” Mr Van Styn said.
