LEGO waterfall a winner for Geraldton’s Willson brothers

Two young Geraldton brothers have outclassed more than 1000 entrants in a national LEGO competition. Finlay and Kai Willson, aged 12 and 8 respectively, recently won the LEGO Masters Daily Challenge with their elaborate waterfall scene. The competition is an off-shoot of the popular Nine Network program of the same title. Entrants post photos of their work on Facebook and a different winner is chosen each day. Mum Lucy Willson said her boys won the competition the first time they entered. “The theme was ‘make something beginning with W’, so they chose to do a waterfall,” she said. “There were over 1000 children who entered that day, and the entries are actually pretty amazing.” Ms Willson said Finlay and Kai had been LEGO enthusiasts for years but became interested in the competition after learning some of their Geraldton Primary School mates had tried their luck. For their efforts, they won $100 worth of LEGO and are now among about 40 finalists whose work will be judged by the show’s presenters. The winner will be rewarded with — you guessed it — more LEGO. Ms Willson said it would be put to good use. “They have a space at the back of the house which we call the LEGO room and they make all kinds of stuff in there,” she said. “They’re really creative.”
